Upcoming: PhD Defense of Georgios Stroulios

On Monday, the 4th of November 2024, Georgios Stroulios will defend his PhD thesis, titled ‘Development of apical-out organoid models for viral infections assays’. His supervisor is Prof. Dasja Pajkrt along with Dr. Katja Wolthers and Dr. Salvatore Simmini as co-supervisors.

About Georgios Stroulios

Georgios (George) Stroulios was one of the 15 Early Stage Researchers (ESRs) who participated in the OrganoVIR consortium, an Innovative Training Network (ITN) led by Dasja Pajkrt and Katja Wolthers.

With a bachelor’s degree in Biology (Aristotle University) and a master’s degree in Molecular Medicine (Erasmus University of Rotterdam), George joined the Pulmonary R&D team at STEMCELL Technologies in Cambridge, the United Kingdom as a PhD candidate. During the COVID-19 pandemic, George briefly joined the OrganoVIR Labs team in Amsterdam UMC location UMC as a PhD student.

At STEMCELL Technologies, George’s research focused on developing novel in vitro pulmonary models of the respiratory tract. His work on airway organoids would ultimately lead to the utilization of airway organoids in functional and viral studies.
